Damrak 16 was squatted in march 2006 after a long period of emptiness. The building is owned by the well known spekulant kroonenberg. Ever since it has been squatted the building has provided living-space for 10 to 20 people as well as space for social and political projects such as prisoner support day-cafe, peoples-kitchen, benefit for various projects, buttkraaker, a graphic space, computer work space, squatting information hour (ksu), bike-workshop, Operating Theatre and more. After one and a half years the owner obtained permition to change our social centre into yuppie apartments and our home-entrance into a cashmachine. Because of this cash-machine the entrance of damrak 16 will be closed off. To make the house still accessible the owner got permition to transform a monumental building in the haringpakkerssteeg entirly into a staircase and connect two buildings through a bridge on the backside. These are the reasons on which the police is going to evict us within the next few weeks and at the same time these are the reasons why we are going to resist this eviction.

The city council clearly took sides in this social issue. Our demands are not directed towards them. Our demands are directed towards all the people out there which do not agree with this policy from the rich for the rich. We demand from you people to take what you need, no matter if its locked up in saves, behind steal bars or citex. We demand to work together on a collective solution for a collective problem. And this solution we might aswell call classwar!!!

SMASH CAPITALISM FOR A WORLD OF EQUALITY AND LIBERTY

Verklaring van damrak 16 over aankomende ontruimingsgolf op 23.102007 Na een lange periode van leegstand werd het damrak 16 gekraakt. Eigennar van het pand is de beruchte speculant krooneberg. Sinds de kraak heeft het pand woonruimte geboden aan 10 tot 20 mensen en ook ruimte voor verschillende sociale en politieke projecten zoals voku, dagcafe met gevangenen solidariteitsgroep, benefieten voor verschillende projecten , butt kraaker, een grafische en computer ruimte, fietswerkplaats, tijdelijk ondernemen voor ksu-c., operating theatre etc. Na anderhalf jaar heeft de eigenaar toestemming gekregen om ons sociaal centrum te veranderen in yuppie appartementen en onze ingang tot een pinautomaat. Voor deze automaat gaat de ingang van het pand afgesloten worden en om het huis toegankelijk te houden heft de eigenaar een vergunning om een monumentaal pand aan de haringpakkerssteeg compleet in te bouwen tot een trappenhuis e3n de 2 gebouwen aan de achterkant met elkaar te verbinden door middel van een brug. Dit zijn de redenen waarom de politie ons gaat ontruimen in de komende weken en dit zijn tegelijkertijd de redenen waarom wij ons gaan verzetten tegen deze ontruiming. De gemeenteraad heeft duidelijk party gekozen in deze kwestie, onze eisen zijn daarom ook niet oom hun gericht maar direct gericht aan alle mensen die het niet eens zijn met dit “rijken voor de rijken� beleid. Wij eisen van jullie, dat jullie nemen wat jullie willen ongeacht of het opgeborgen zit in kluizen of beschermd wordt achter stalen balken en citex. Wij eisen samenwerking voor een collectieve oplossing voor een collectief probleem. En deze oplossing kunnen we net zo goed een klassenstrijd noemen.
